Topeka City Council Approves $180K for Community Hockey Rink - Ray Church Exclusive
The Topeka City Council has approved the allocation of up to $180,000 to establish a permanent community ice rink north of Evergy Plaza. This decision utilizes funds previously designated for the Evel Knievel Museum, which is relocating to Las Vegas.
The new rink aims to provide year-round access to ice sports for the community, addressing the limitations of the temporary rink's rental equipment and seasonal operation. Bison Ice Sports Association President Ty Dragoo emphasized that while professional hockey will be hosted at the Expo Centre, the community rink will offer broader access to ice activities.
The project is expected to be completed by January 1, 2026, with the Downtown Topeka Foundation overseeing its development and operation.
